A practical checklist for reviewing an AI-written CV
Check facts, evidence and role relevance before using an AI-generated CV or cover letter.
Compare every claim with the original
Open the original CV beside the draft. Check employers, dates, titles, qualifications and the work you personally performed. A clearer sentence should preserve the original meaning. Remove unsupported achievements, tools, team sizes and percentages.
Highlight any sentence you could not comfortably explain in an interview. If a result is real but absent from your source material, add the evidence yourself before asking for another draft. Do not accept a number merely because it looks plausible.
Match evidence to the actual role
Read the whole job description and identify the responsibilities that matter most. For each one, point to an example of relevant work. Keep a separate list for skills you are learning and requirements you do not meet.
Use the employer’s terminology only where it accurately describes your experience. Repeating keywords without evidence makes it harder for you and the reader to assess the fit. A transparent comparison can help organise your review, but it does not reveal an employer’s private selection process.
Review the finished document
Check the contact details, file name, section order and readability of the exported file. Read the cover letter aloud and remove sentences that could belong to any applicant. Keep a copy of the exact version you send so you can prepare for questions about it.
